A walk with a mixture of bush track and forestry road.
Start by crossing the Makaroro River before joining up with the forestry roads to the end of Leatherwood Rd.
From here the track is signposted and rises steeply 390m to Poutaki (1020m).
The track is not that well-known so it can be overgrown in parts. From Poutaki, drop 70m to the four-bunk Poutaki Hut.
Return on the same track.
