A steady, some might say relentless, climb from Otaki Forks to gain 900m altitude will get trampers to the turn-off to Penn Creek Hut (six-bunks), having first passed such landmarks as Tirotiro Knob, Field Hut and Table Top (1047m).

From Table Top it is a long and steep descent to Penn Creek and the hut.

Tracks in this area can be overgrown, so unless you have solid navigation skills, the best route out is to retrace your steps.
