Free climbing day

The climbing day will be held at three New Zealand climbing venues

Three New Zealand climbing gyms are offering free entry on Saturday August 18 as part of The North Face’s ‘Global Climbing Day’.

Last year more than 20,000 people around the world participated in the inaugural event. This year it’s being held on August 18 at Extreme Edge Panmure in Auckland from 6pm to 9pm, Rockatipu Climbing Wall at Queenstown Events Centre from 10am to 6pm, and Basecamp Wanaka Climbing Centre from 10am to 6pm. There will be free climbing and giveaways.

The North Face says the event aims to bring people through climbing, under the manifesto, “Some people build walls, other people climb them”.

The North Face will donate $1 to the Khumbu Climbing Center in Nepal for every climber who participates in the event.

The climbing centre was started by North Face climber Conrad Anker with the aim of helping Nepali climbers gain more skills.
