Aroha Hyland, Zoe Albon, Aurelia Charton and Michelle Daniel climbed Black Peak in Glenorchy.

What did you get up to last weekend?

Aroha Hyland, Zoe Albon, Aurelia Charton and Michelle Daniel climbed Black Peak in Glenorchy, then overnighted at McIntosh Hut.

Marlow Howitt (7) enjoyed his overnight tramp to Papatahi Hut with his mother, and is always keen for the next outing.

After breaking her collarbone, Mila (7) wasn’t sure she would be able to complete the Tongariro Alpine Crossing as planned. But her mother, Clare Knox, says Mila smashed it, with a little bit of help from big brother Jesse (9) and a whole heap of determination.

Garth and Nico Robins (15) walked the Tui Domain Track in Te Aroha, a lovely walk that dogs are permitted on.

The Hewats went to Manuka Hut in the Ashburton Lakes. Bethany (8) and Peter (6) walked in, while their father, Matt, carried most of the gear on the quad bike. Max the dog came, too.

The Marsden, Wyatt and Van Vugt families spent a stunning day walking the track to Whakapapaiti Hut. The boardwalk section with views of Mt Ruapehu was a highlight.

Emilia (8) and Joseph Tramoundanas-Can (6) took time out from campsite duties to have some fun on the Ōrongorongo River bank in Remutaka Forest Park. “This was the kids’ first overnight tramp together with three of us crammed into a two-person tent,” said their father, John.

Richard Zajkowski sheltered overnight at Robert Lodge in Nelson Lakes National Park during a blizzard. “Next morning, however, it was a stunner,” he said.

Sarah Bauer and Elisabeth Reng took on the Five Passes and wound down at Cow Saddle with face masks after a bracing swim in a glacier-cold stream.
