Charlie Currie showed grit and determination in rainy conditions on his first overnighter to Fern Burn Hut. He can’t wait for the next mission!

The Begg and Stutz families from Nelson stopped at Cobb Hut before climbing to Fenella Hut for two nights. “It’s an awesome valley for kids to explore,” said Marcel Stutz.

Andrew Ure, Jeremy Maarschalk, Trudie Pope and Rebekah Goodwin camped at Routeburn Flats en route to Lake Nerine. “It was a great time,” said Andrew. “The weather wasn’t all great, but it’s amazing country.”

Cody Drysdale, Gary Drysale, Ian Davenport and Braden Davenport stayed at Atiwhakatu Hut. “It was the first time all four of us have been tramping together in over a decade,” said Braden. “Great weather, a great spot and a great time had by all, reminiscing on the tramps of days gone by over card games and a few cheeky beverages.”

No need to strike a pose, the trees did it for them. Zoe (9) and Ella Gilmour (7) enjoyed their first day hike after moving to New Zealand from Australia – to Rod Donald Hut.

Todd Clay completed the Lake Waikaremoana Great Walk – and read Wilderness at Waikaremoana Holiday Park.

Rosie Cave (5) enjoyed her first overnight tramp to Mangatepopo Hut in Tongariro National Park. She walked all the way up to Soda Springs and back to the hut, and said: “Mum, every time you go tramping you have to take me with you!”

Sarah Johnson, Torin Eadie, Ben Eadie and Sharon Patterson climbed Mt Karioi for a view of the clouds.

Stan Young (10) smashed out the hike to Cedar Flat with his sister Juliet (12) and father Rob (young at heart), without once complaining of tired legs. “The track kept us on our toes and the hot pools at the end were just what we needed,” said Rob.
