Overview

The Namche Hike are tough but packable overpants made from 75D 3-layer ePE Gore-Tex with a high waterproof rating of 28,000mm. The pared-back design saves weight yet includes the essentials. They have articulated knees and a gentle taper in the lower leg to minimise loose fabric. An elasticated waistband with a well-designed one-hand pull shock cord adjuster keeps them in place, and ¾-length YKK water-resistant zips with dual sliders allow venting and easy fitting over trekking boots. The nylon is recycled and the DWR is PFC-free. 

Performance

Tramping that’s beyond well-formed tracks can be hard on overpants, which receive more wear and tear than rain jackets even though worn less often. Rab has made these pants durable enough for scrub and moraine bashing, but has kept the weight under 300g with minimal seams and no pockets or cuff adjustments. They roll up to a conveniently packable size. 

I found they functioned well despite the stripped-back design. Fit was true to size, and the cut was not too loose in the leg. Their mobility was sufficient for awkward terrain but not as good as more articulated or stretch pants. The minimal cuff fitted smoothly over or under gaiters.
