Maggie Keighley tramped to Rangiwahia Hut in Ruahine Forest Park. This time it was a day trip after Maggie had previously spent the night there.

Joy Bryant smiled through the many extremely chilly crossings of Speargrass Creek on the way to Lake Angelus in Nelson Lakes National Park. “It was a perfect autumn trip with friends all of whom are over 70 years old,” said Joy.

Paris Short arranged a permit to take her dog Rocket to Port Craig Hut on the South Coast Track in Fiordland National Park. “It’s a nice gentle dog-friendly plod along a spectacular coastline,” said Paris’ partner Drew Morse.

Max Johnston bounded up the track to Caroll Hut in Arthur’s Pass National Park. “It is a steep, rough track, but he had a great time camping on the tops,” said dad Mark.

Ida de Boer took her friends Joel Sunga, Ethan Yang and Aniketh Singh off track to climb above Upper Tama Lake in Tongariro National Park. “Those young people from Auckland had never been in the snow before!” said Ida.

Victoria Howells walked the Paparoa Track Great Walk with her 80-year-old dad Bob Kennedy. “We got a good dump of snow on the first night at Ces Clark Hut,” said Victoria. “We did it over four days and it was an amazing trip.”

David, Isobel, Ruby and Amy Lyons celebrated Amy’s birthday by staying two nights at Hooker Hut, Aoraki Mt Cook National Park. “We had three days of clear views of Aoraki and two nights viewing the most stunning star-studded night sky,” said David.
