Cascade Kauri Area, Waitakere Ranges

Read more from

This walk combines several tracks: Cascade Track, Upper Kauri track and Lower Kauri Track. Do them all for 9.12km round trip back to Falls Rd. Shorter versions would be to park on Long Rd and do the Upper and Lower Kauri Tracks, or just do the Cascade walk from Falls Rd. Either way, you’re sure to see some of the biggest kauri in Auckland in this area.

The trees here were inaccessible to the loggers who decimated kauri forests in this region in the late 1800s. The tracks do offer a bit of uphill grunt for those wanting to really stretch their legs – especially where the Cascade Track meets the Upper and Lower Kauri Tracks – it,s all uphill to Long Rd.Besides the kauri, another highlight is Cascades Falls – reached off a sidetrack on the Cascade Track.
