Each month we set three new #microchallenges to add interest and silliness to your kilometres.
These three fun #microchallenges will encourage you to better appreciate your surroundings. Our favourite nine #microchallenge completers receive a Walk1200km badge. The best entry of each challenge receives a prize from our partners.
How to enter
Take a photo of you completing the challenge and share it on the Walk1200km Facebook group or on Instagram, with a descriptive caption and using the relevant hashtag – e.g #microchallenge17 – by March 15 (those without social media can email entries to walk1200km@lifestylepublishing.co.nz with the relevant hashtag in the subject line). Winners will be published in the May 2023 issue of Wilderness. Got an idea for a challenge? Email walk1200km@lifestylepublishing.co.nz.
#microchallenge16: Visit a place made famous in a movie or TV show
This one is location, location, location! Can you visit Mordor or another place where a movie or other type of production was filmed. Take a photo of you at the location. Don’t forget to tell us where it is and which film or show it’s from.
Partner prize: A pair of Bridgedale Midweight Merino Performance Fit socks.
#microchallenge17: Visit a hut
To keep with the hut theme of the March issue, can you find your own amazing backcountry hut to visit? Your photo should include yourself or your companions and don’t forget to tell us the hut’s name and location. Thanks to Walk1200km participant Jenny Weston for this idea.
Partner prize: Salewa Crow GTX boots worth $530!
#microchallenge18: Have a brew with a view
Microchallenges are about taking the time to appreciate your surroundings and what better way to do that than by taking a break and enjoying a mug of your favourite hot (or cold) beverage. Perhaps you’ll boil the billy or pull out a Thermos. Your photo should include you admiring the surroundings. Thanks to Ali Middleton for suggesting this one.
Partner prize: a $100 Back Country Cuisine voucher.
