Each month, three new #microchallenges are set to add interest and silliness to your kilometres.
These three fun #microchallenges will help you better appreciate your surroundings and have fun on your walks. Our favourite nine #microchallenge completers receive a Walk1200km badge, while the best entry for each challenge receives a prize from our partners.
#microchallenge19: Find an interesting door
Big, small, unconventional, unexpected. Keep an eye out for doors or gates which are worth a chin-stroke on your walks this month.

#microchallenge19 Partner prize: A pair of feet-comforting Bridgedale Midweight Merino Performance Fit socks.

#microchallenge20: Walk 6 in 60
Put that new-found fitness to the test and walk 6km in one hour. Try to get as close to spot-on as possible (i.e. 6km in 60 minutes would be perfect). You’ll need to get someone to take a photo of you showing your distance and time on your phone or tracking device to enter this one!

#microchallenge20 Partner prize: A $100 voucher from retail partner Further Faster

#microchallenge21: Photograph the night sky
Inspired by the story about walking the Tongariro Alpine Crossing at night (see p38) plus that it’s Matariki in June, we want you to go for a night walk. Photograph the night sky – or something else of interest.

#microchallenge21 Partner prize: Rab Xenair insulated jacket worth $480!
How to enter
You must be a registered Walk1200km participant to win. Take a photo of yourself completing the challenge (yes, people make a photo more interesting and winsome!) and share it on the Walk1200km Facebook group with a descriptive caption and using the relevant hashtag – e.g. #microchallenge19 – by June 20 (or email entries to walk1200km@lifestylepublishing.co.nz with the relevant hashtag
in the subject line and the description in the email). Winners will be published in the August 2024 issue of Wilderness.
