Jans Hut is the perfect place to go if you have young children and you want to introduce them to tramping.
There are several DOC huts in the Orongorongo Valley that can be booked. They have gas cookers, pots, pans, crockery and cutlery.
Jans Hut even as an inside toilet. A well maintained track heads up the valley, passing through beech forest.
The Orongorongo River is crossed 10 minutes before reaching the hut. It is a braided riverbed and the deepest crossing is around knee-deep in good weather.
