In each issue, three new #microchallenges are set to add interest and silliness to your kilometres.
These three fun #microchallenges will help you to appreciate your surroundings and have fun on your walks. Our favourite six #microchallenge completers receive a money-can’t-buy limited edition Walk1200km badge, and the best entry for each challenge receives a prize from our partners.
#microchallenge13: Create the perfect scroggin
What’s the correct ratio of nuts to raisins, does it include Jet Planes and is it savoury or sweet? Tell us your perfect formula for the ultimate walking snack.

Partner prize: A pair of Bridgedale Midweight Merino Performance Fit socks!

#microchallenge14: Give us a sign
Share the best signs you find on your walks. Maybe it’s a mud-encrusted track sign, a curious warning, or something similar to this unusual sign (and let us know what you think this sign is telling us).
Partner prize: A $100 Back Country Cuisine Voucher!

#microchallenge15: Hug a tree
Show your appreciation for a tree by giving it a hug. Research suggests it’s good for you too, lowering stress levels and blood pressure.

Partner prize: A $100 Further Faster shop voucher!
How to enter
You must be a registered Walk1200km participant to win. Take a photo of yourself completing the challenge (yes, people make a photo more interesting and winsome!) and share it on the Walk1200km Facebook group with a descriptive caption and using the relevant hashtag – e.g.#microchallenge14 – by June 23 (or email entries to walk1200km@lifestylepublishing.co.nz with the relevant hashtag in the subject line and the description in the email). Winners will be published in the September 2025 issue of Wilderness.
