If the thrill of tramping through crispy white snow isn’t enough to get the kids excited for a winter tramping trip, how about taking a toboggan to spice things up?

Kylie Middlewick and her husband took their 3- and 6-year-old boys to Flora Hut at Mt Arthur in Kahurangi National Park, and the sled made all the difference.

“They had a great time with it on the track, it was also handy when our 3-year-old got tired of walking, the 6-year-old could tow him along,” Middlewick said.

The highlights were deep, soft powder snow, spectacular views and big icicles. “Lots of cheeky weka were around and my boys loved spotting their footprints in the snow and following the trail.”

Middlewick said the track is great for little ones; “It’s a magical, easily accessible place to visit, especially when there’s fresh snow.”
