Overview 

Mobility and durability are the hallmarks of the Pascal from New Zealand brand Inselberg. This high-comfort hoodie uses plush Polartec Power Stretch Pro throughout, which has an abrasion-resistant nylon face and a brushed interior. It has a stretch hood, two hand pockets, an internal security pocket and two large external chest pockets.   

Performance

For a market used to brightly coloured outdoor clothing, the single black colourway and smart street appeal of the Pascal could be deceptive, but this is a technical midlayer with excellent mobility. When on the move, the high-stretch fabric, articulated sleeves and underarm gussets make it feel light and unrestrictive. For high-intensity use, this warm jacket is best suited to the cooler months, although the sleeves pull up easily for cooling and it wicks well and dries fast. The relaxed torso bunched a little under a harness, but this comfort fit does enhance its casual appeal. The hand pockets are waistbelt/harness-friendly and the chest pockets easily accommodate a large phone, but the hood could be closer fitting for a smoother fit under a helmet.  

What we liked: Good mobility and durability, excellent wicking and fast drying.

Limitations: Relaxed torso fit can be bulky under a harness or slim-fit shell; heavy.

Why buy the Pascal?  

For some people this will be the perfect midlayer: a warm, durable, comfortable, high-mobility jacket suited to traversing the ranges or searching for coffee. Others may find it a bit bulky or warm within a technical fit layering system.
