The first thing I noticed about the Mira I was how easy it was to set up. Even though it comes with three poles and a clip on fly, I figured it out in just a couple of minutes without using the instructions.

Future pitchings were even easier because I left the fly clipped on – a handy feature if you need to put it up quickly in the rain.

The inside is well ventilated with mesh walls and there’s also a low zip on the wall opposite the door that can provide extra breeze, though it‘s primary purpose is to access gear stored beneath the fly. It’s actually very handy, because it allows you to keep the vestibule area uncluttered for easy access and, with the doors pinned back, unimpeded views.

On my weekend trip to Motutapu Island, I used the front vestibule, which measures 0.7m², to store my boots and pack. There was a light rain overnight and my gear stayed dried.

It’s not the most spacious single person tents – just 1.54m² internal space. But because its so bright inside and the inner is mostly mesh, there’s no sense of the walls closing in. There’s also good head room thanks to the three poles needed to pitch the tent. That’s more poles than most in this category, but the cross-ridge pole allowed me to kneel and sit up comfortably. The pole sleeves are continuous so the poles slide through easily, without catching on the fabric – another element providing for a speedy set-up.  

The tent has a packed weight of 1500g (1300g min), which is light enough for me, though compared to some of the other tents in this review is at the heavy end. But because it’s a multi-pitch design, you can lighten the load by taking a separate footprint (not included) and the fly only. And at this price, it’s definitely worth considering for your solo trips.
