Speaking of bikepacking tents …

MSR is releasing a bike-specific version of its award-winning tramping tents. The new Hubba Hubba Bikepack (1P: $1099; 2P: $1319) has shorter DAC poles and a stuff sac that can be attached to nearly all handlebars. It’s been planned for easy living too, with enlarged vestibules for cycling gear and oversized gear lofts. It’s due for release this summer.

Big boots for big trips

Lowa has updated its Ticam Evo GTX trekking boot. It is designed for multi- day trips into challenging terrain (like climbing The Gladiator – see p30), but has a climbing zone toe box that allows precise footwork such as that required for rock scrambles, via ferrata, even ice routes. It has a resoleable and partially crampon-compatible Vibram sole, Gore-Tex lining and full-grain leather uppers. Expect to pay a premium: these robust-looking boots retail for $779. Available in New Zealand this month.
