Overview

This version of the Rapide SL is much improved on the earlier model. It’s now insulated with two layers of mylar film rather than Primaloft, making it both lighter and more compact. The reflective film improves insulation too, boosting the R-value from 4.2 to 4.8. Plush 9cm-thick air chambers with 11cm side baffles cradle you in the middle of the pad, while the high-volume dual valve is fumble-proof for efficient inflation, adjustment and deflation. A repair kit with spare valve seal and adhesive patches is included. 

Performance

The fabric denier is not specified, but the double-ripstop nylon feels sturdy. After many nights of use it has been resistant to punctures, with no sign of the weld-point failures that plagued the earlier model. A pair of large top-side valves make inflation and deflation quick, and the inlet valve is easy to bleed air from to adjust pressure, and less prone to accidental opening. Improvements to the pump bag have made it larger, lighter and more useful as a stuff sack. 

At 51cm wide, the regular model is better suited to leaner builds, but every body shape and sleeping style is catered for with five sizes, up to 64cm wide x 198cm long. Year-round trampers will appreciate the comfort of this thick mat.
