The team at Further Faster dug into a selection of dehydrated and freeze-dried meals, coffee and snacks to share their thoughts on foods they take – or are considering taking – on their next adventure.

Each item is scored out of 5 for texture, taste and convenience.

Firepot Orzo Bolognese $18.99

Julz: It actually tastes like something I would make at home. I checked the ingredient list and there was nothing on it that I didn’t have in my kitchen cupboard, which I loved. It is dehydrated, so needs an extra 5min to rehydrate, but other than testing my patience after a day on the hill, I am very happy eating this.

Senka: I had the vegan version and while the flavour was good, I would have preferred it with spaghetti instead of orzo pasta.

Texture: 4.5 Taste: 4.5

Convenience: 4

Real Meals Wilderness Stew $17.99

Ant: Seriously tasty meal with so much flavour. A great reward after a long day in the hills.

Rocky: This has long been my favourite Real Meals dish. Meaty and hearty!

Texture: 4 Taste: 4.5

Convenience: 4.5

Gu Energy Stroopwafel – Salty’s Caramel $4.99

Darren: I have a sweet tooth and this hit the spot. I heated it over a cup of Backcountry Coffee so it went all gooey in the middle.

Blair: I was halfway up a mountain and really needed the energy, but I didn’t enjoy the taste. Not a snack for off the mountain.

Texture: 4.5 Taste: 3.75

Convenience: 4

Radix Nutrition Ultra 800KCAL Breakfast – Strawberry V9 $14.99

Senka: This strawberry breakfast is one of my faves. I recommend using hot water to hydrate it for a nice warm brekkie.

Pat: It really surprised me with how good it tastes.

Texture: 4.25 Taste:

Convenience: 4.5

Torq Flapjack Ginger Cake $4.30

Erin: Super easy to snack on while adventuring; good sugar hit when you need it.

Vanessa: Juicy sultanas, great concentration of ginger, healthy but naughty – yum!

Texture: 4.5 Taste: 5

Convenience: 4.5

Firepot Tuscan Stew $18.99

Kirsty: The perfect vegetable stew. I’m a big fan of greens, so it really hit the spot.

George: It’s a hot and hearty meal with plenty of veggies. I found it needed a bit more salt.

Texture: 3.5 Taste: 4.5

Convenience: 4

Backcountry Coffee Co Drip Filters – Brazil 4 pack $13.95

Ant: I need a daily caffeine boost and this is insanely good. Light and packable, too.

Blair: Not only does it taste great but it also makes your whole pack smell of yummy roasted coffee.

Texture: 5 Taste:

Convenience: 4
