For this little survival trick you’ll need:

• Mobile phone
• Scouring pad
• Tinder

1. Take the battery out of your phone (yes, you may have to destroy it) and locate the positive and negative points on its base
2. Tear off a piece of scouring pad and roll it up so it’s around 4cm long
3. Place one end on the negative point and the other on the positive point – it will start to smoulder
4. Hold the smouldering pad to the tinder until it catches – this could take a long time, but in a survival situation it may be worth the effort!
