A super-rich and spicy hot drink.

Perfect for when you want an extra special after-dinner treat, this decadent mountain hot chocolate is super rich and a little goes a long way. My partner thinks it’s worth noting that for an extra sugar high, this drink is best served with a packet of gingernuts.

Profile

Cook time 5min
Serves 2-3
Cost $3-$4

Ingredients

2 cups water
60g coconut milk powder
50g dark chocolate (70% or more)
1-2 tbsp coconut sugar
¼ tsp vanilla essence

Additional options:

  • Good pinch chilli powder (mix through at end)
  • Few drops peppermint essence (mix through at end)
  • Two cardamom pods and 1/8 tsp grated nutmeg (add at the start and remove cardamom before serving).

Method

Place water and coconut milk powder into a pot and bring to the boil, reduce heat and add chocolate, 1 tbsp coconut sugar and vanilla essence, whisk well until combined. Taste and add extra sugar if needed. Serve piping hot.
