What did you get up to last weekend?

Anne McDermott and Pip Craigie were race marshals on the Rakiura Challenge Trail Run. “There are four checkpoints and the marshals dress up to encourage the runners and lift their spirits,” said Anne.

Tobie (11) and father Robert loved getting to A Frame Hut in the Hakatere Conservation Area. With 700m of elevation, it was a slog and a triumph!

Benson and Charlie Parsons went on their first overnight tramp with their aunt, Helen Anderson. They visited Dalys Clearing Hut in Kaimai Forest Park.

Nadine Loftus and Ryan Gibbs went for a quick overnighter into Appletree Bay in the Abel Tasman. “We’re lucky to live so close,” said Nadine.

Paula Marshall, Jude Hay and Glenda Hooper had a soak in Kerosene Creek hot springs near Rotorua after their 10km loop tramp up Maunga Kākaramea Rainbow Mountain.

Andre, Colin (5), Lenny (9) and Finn (11) walked to Anti Crow Hut near Arthur’s Pass to celebrate Lenny’s birthday. The refurbished hut was an absolute treat.

Keziah and Elizabeth Walker (13 and 11) led their father Chris on a tramp to Green Lake. They were prepared for all the weather Fiordland could throw at them.

Charlotte Lankshear had an amazing time hiking Lake Waikaremoana. “Draped in mist, the forest took on an atmospheric beauty that had us walking in silence and awe,” she said.

Inspired by Wilderness articles by solo female trampers, Belinda Cooper progressed from solo one-day tramps to the Ruapheu Round the Mountain Track. “I’m a new convert to women tramping multi-days solo,” she said.
