Phil Penney skins his way up to Pioneer Hut, 2249m, on the Fox névé. There is a feeling of vastness when you’re at Pioneer: vast ice and snow fields make up the névé which is approximately 30km². Then there is the seemingly infinite space of the Tasman Sea as a backdrop. – Allan Uren
