Tatonka’s Kiruna two-person multi-pitch tent.

Readers will be familiar with Tatonka packs, which have been distributed here by Tight Lines since 2010. Now, Tatonka tents are available for the first time in New Zealand, though the German company has been making them for more than 20 years.

There will be a range of nine Expert and Advanced series tents. Expert tents are for regular trampers/alpine adventurers; Advanced tents are for those who camp several times a year and are okay with carrying a little extra weight.

The flagship Kiruna ($699) is a two-person, multi-pitch, two-pole, tunnel tent weighing 2300g. It’s designed for extreme weather conditions and has a 30D 6.6 ripstop nylon fly rated at 1500mm, a 30D ripstop nylon inner and a tough 70D nylon taffeta floor rated at 10,000mm. Poles are made of scandium. The entrance is through the front vestibule.
