An easy backcountry buffet is the humble noodle. It’s lightweight, and all that’s needed to be done is add hot water and stir in the sauce for a carby meal that’ll keep you warm and fuelled.

To make matters more enticing, match the delicious views of your outdoor restaurant with toppings to create luxury noods.

Here are some ideas:

Before leaving home, cut up an assortment of veggies, such as bok choy, carrots and broccoli, and seal them in a zip-lock bag or in your mug or bowl. Add the veggies while your noods are boiling. If you want to get fancy, bring some coriander and sliced spring onion or nori as toppings.

If it’s your first night on the tramp, include some thinly cut beef.

Take some eggs (in a plastic container) and fry them up to add on top.

Add dried mushrooms and tofu to the water while it boils.

Add a tin of tuna for protein.

Add edamame beans to the boiling water, drain, then stir in a tub of pesto.

Buy packet soup and add the noods to make a creamy chicken noodle soup.
