Overview

The Trekker Pro II is an all-round trekking boot that’s well balanced for all-day comfort and durability. The Gore-Tex-lined uppers combine 1.6mm suede with burly but breathable air8000 textile, which is reinforced with PU overlays. It is built with Aku’s Elica Natural Stride System, which distributes weight evenly for efficient, comfortable walking. It has Vibram Curcuma mountain outsole with a density-zoned PU midsole and a moderately stiff nylon shank.

Performance

The wide midfoot and broad toe profile were a comfortable match for my widish feet. Overall they have a well-tuned fit with a roomy forefoot and a snug heel and supportive cuff. Thanks to the textile cuff and tongue they needed no breaking in and felt good to go out of the box. On the trail they were in the mid-range of flexibility for a trekking boot, with a forgiving PU midsole that’s softer in the heel and firmer in the forefoot. This equates to all-day comfort with sufficient support and protection for heavy pack carrying, yet enough rigidity to take a crampon or kick confidently into firm ground or snow and hold an edge. The sole compound had reliable traction in wet conditions and its deep lugs and aggressive heel brake were well suited to on- and off-track tramping.

What we like

A comfortable fit well suited to wide feet, durable uppers, reasonably priced.

Limitations

Minimal rand protection, medium sole durability.

Why buy the Aku Trekker Pro II?

This is a practical, durable and comfortable boot suited to all-round tramping, on and off track. It ticks the boxes for long days of pack carrying and occasional cramponing and is well priced too.

Overall Score: 86%
