The mountain grandeur on the Rees-Dart is dramatic: the valleys are vast, the huts are historical, and if you’re seeking solitude, a smattering of rock bivouacs and riverside campsites are on offer. After a huge landslide closed the track for three years, DOC reopened this classic in 2017.
This 60km circuit was once the nearby Routeburn’s poor cousin; the great walk you did when the Great Walk was booked out. However, its popularity has seen it become a destination in its own right. The Rees-Dart sports spectacular scenery that rivals its next-door neighbour and deserves its spot on your holiday bucket list.
