Answer these questions honestly: Do you want to be healthier, fitter, more productive and see more of the country? Do you want to be the best version of yourself you possibly can be?

If you answered yes to all or even just one of those things, and let’s be honest none of us said no to them all, then please, read on.

It’s been one year since I joined hundreds of others in taking up the Walk1200km challenge and it’s been one of the best things I’ve ever done. I’m fitter than I’ve been for a long time. I’m carrying around a little less weight, I have more energy to spend playing football and other games with my daughter, and I’ve done more walking in more places in the past 12 months than I have in many years.

All this from taking one step at a time to walk 1200km over 12 months.

If you sat out the challenge last year, don’t make the same mistake again. Now is the time to make 2023 your year of walking. Do it for your fitness, your family, for a greater cause, or just because it’s fun

Yes! Walk1200km is fun. Watching the sun rise or set while most people are in bed or watching the telly is fun. Discovering new places as you wander through the landscape is fun. Hearing about the places others have walked is fun. Getting a new pair of shoes because you’ve worn through your last pair is fun. Watching your progress tracker accumulate kilometre after kilometre is chef’s kiss fun. Seeing your fitness improve so that each month you walk further than the last (and more quickly) is the greatest fun.

Fun aside, Walk1200km is the simplest way to make vast improvements to your life. And the best thing is it takes just 40 minutes a day to walk 3.3km. Average that distance every day for a year and you’ll have walked 1200km.

You can do it anytime, anywhere. You can do it on your own, listening to a podcast or with your kids. It’s a challenge, but it’s achievable. You’ll never feel like you’re undergoing some hardcore endeavour, rather you’ll be wrapped in the comforting support of fellow participants egging you on, celebrating your milestones and accompanying you every step of the way.

So, don’t just sit there. Register now, join the Walk1200km Facebook group, step outside and go for a walk.
