A frosty campsite in Arthur's Pass National Park. Photo: Richard Rossiter

It was a freezing night camped at the confluence of the Waimakariri and Crow rivers with temperatures dipping to -5℃. I crept out late at night and used a light inside the tent to illuminate the frigid surroundings. The hoar frost-covered tree provided a perfect frame while the Milky Way kept guard overhead.
