#microchallenge19: Become a one percenter!

Each month we set three new #microchallenges to add interest and silliness to your kilometres.

These three fun #microchallenges will help you better appreciate your surroundings and have fun on your walks. Our favourite nine #microchallenge completers receive a Walk1200km badge. The best entry of each challenge receives a prize from our partners.

#microchallenge19: Become a one percenter!

We’ve been doing the challenge for a few months now, so let’s put that improved fitness and mental toughness to the test and do a walk of at least 12km – one per cent of the challenge! – in one day. Be sure to describe where you went and how this walk compared to your usual walks. Include proof (e.g. a screen grab of your walking app) and a photo of you at completion! Thanks Curtis Stallworthy for this idea.

#microchallenge19 Partner prize: Lowe Alpine Aeon 35 pack worth $269.95.

#microchallenge20: Have a seat

Find a seat that’s been made to help visitors enjoy a view or to take time to appreciate the surroundings. If it’s been donated by someone, tell us by whom. We want to see you in the photo and if possible the view offered or the area where the seat is. Thanks to Sharon Boulton for this idea.

#microchallenge20 Partner prize: A pair of Bridgedale Midweight Merino Performance Fit socks.

#microchallenge21: Visit a Second World War relic

All over New Zealand’s coast are concrete bunkers built during the Second World War to resist an invading army. Find a bunker and share its story. The best photos have someone in them!

#microchallenge21 Partner prize: A $100 Further Fast voucher

How to enter

Take a photo of you completing the challenge and share it on the Walk1200km Facebook group or on Instagram, with a descriptive caption and using the relevant hashtag – e.g #microchallenge19 – by April 16 (those without social media can email entries to walk1200km@lifestylepublishing.co.nz with the relevant hashtag in the subject line). Winners will be published in the June 2023 issue of Wilderness.

Got an idea for a challenge? Email walk1200km@lifestylepublishing.co.nz.
