Star Trail over Double Hut. Photo: Andrew Given

It was a cold, clear night at Double Hut in Hakatere Conservation Park when I set my camera up to photograph the hut and the stunning night sky. The shower of sparks from the chimney was a pleasant surprise, nicely illustrating the warmth and shelter provided by the hut on a mid-winter tramp.
