Features: This lamp has three lighting modes and a red light. The on/off button scrolls through the modes and there are two travel locks – one activated by pressing the button for four seconds, the other by flipping the lamp 180 degrees so the button is blocked by the housing unit.

The lamp tilts up and down so it can be worn around the neck as well as on the head. The battery is recharged via USB and has a burn-time of 2hr on high (50hr on low). The headband has a reflective thread sewn throughout for visibility.

Comfort: The headband is a stretchy bungee cord with a toggle that slides to tighten or loosen it. It doesn’t look comfy, but, because it’s so light it is okay. Adjustment is easy.

In use: It’s designed for use as a trail running headlamp and as such, it stays steady and doesn’t bounce when you’re moving quickly. I found only two of the lighting modes practical – the middle (100 lumens) and high beam (200 lumens). The low-beam mode is only 6 lumens, which is fine for reading or preparing for an early morning departure from the hut, but I found it too low to use in the bush.

The 100-lumen mode was a good light to walk with, providing a wide-angle light that lit up the trail and allowed some peripheral vision. The lamp does not remember the last-used setting, so each time it is turned on you need to cycle to your preferred light.

Value: It’s expensive, especially for a small headlamp designed for runners.

Verdict: So small you can stash it anywhere and use as a back-up or main light. For runners, it’s a great option, but it is less suitable for trampers.
