This jacket is as good as any I’ve tried at overcoming the issue of staying cool while tramping in humid conditions. It has four external DriClime Mesh pockets and pitzips that help release much of the sticky warmth by wicking moisture from your skin.

That’s not to say I didn’t have some skin moisture by the end of a tramp, but the Interfuse had no problem keeping the rain out.

Marmot’s proprietary MemBrain FusionDri three-layer waterproof fabric feels durable and able to endure much tougher paces than those I put it through. When you pull it, there’s a hint of stretch, and this flexibility helps prevent damage should the jacket get caught. It also helps to ensure your movement isn’t hampered in trickier terrain.

I ordered a medium sized coat which I found to be too tight and would opt for the next size up in future. But even a bigger size wouldn’t have reached below the waist – a common trait with modern waterproofs but a little frustrating when you want to sit down in the wet.

The chest pockets are just big enough for maps and the hood has a solid wire-framed peak which means you don’t suffer the irritation of it dropping over your face. There’s lots of space around your head inside the hood and it can be pulled tight and snug via side and rear pull cords when required.

Overall, a useful jacket to have in a range of environments, it’s fairly lightweight at 470g and feels as if it would last a very long time.
