#microchallenge31 Find something unexpected

Each month, three new #microchallenges are set to add interest and silliness to your kilometres.

These three fun #microchallenges will help you to better appreciate your surroundings and have fun on your walks. Our favourite six #microchallenge completers receive a Walk1200km badge, and the best entry for each challenge receives a prize from our partners.

#microchallenge31: Find something unexpected

On one of your walks, can you spot something that doesn’t belong? A golden statue beneath a waterfall at the beach for instance! #microchallenge31

Partner prize: A pair of Bridgedale Midweight Merino Performance Fit socks.

#microchallenge32: Photograph a native bird

With spring in full swing, now might be the time to spot an elusive, or common, native bird. Snap a photo and be sure to identify the bird along with a short caption describing where the image was taken. #microchallenge32

Partner prize: A $100 Back Country Cuisine voucher

#microchallenge33: Leave Wilderness somewhere

Take an old copy of Wilderness on a walk and leave it somewhere for someone else to enjoy. You could include an invitation to the finder to join the Walk1200km challenge. Show us where you left it and what your invitation said. Thanks to Karen Sortehaug for this idea. #microchallenge33

Partner prize: Big Agnes Impassable 20 pack worth $360!

How to enter

You must be a registered Walk1200km participant to win. Take a photo of yourself completing the challenge (yes, people make a photo more interesting and winsome!) and share it on the Walk1200km Facebook group with a descriptive caption and using the relevant hashtag – e.g. #microchallenge31 – by October 22 (or email entries to walk1200km@lifestylepublishing.co.nz with the relevant hashtag in the subject line and the description in the email). Winners will be published in the December 2024 issue of Wilderness.
