#microchallenge25: Take a walk down memory lane

In each issue, three new #microchallenges are set to add interest and silliness to your kilometres.

These three fun #microchallenges will help you to appreciate your surroundings and have fun on your walks. Our favourite six #microchallenge completers receive a money-can’t-buy limited edition Walk1200km badge, and the best entry for each challenge receives a prize from our partners.

#microchallenge25: Take a walk down memory lane

Share the best historic pic of yourself going for a walk. What happy memories does the image evoke? (Thanks to Diana Ward, Walk1200km participant and contributor, for sharing the photo of herself tramping with her daughter Rae 23 years ago!) #microchallenge25

Partner prize: A pair of Aku Flyrock GTX shoes worth $385!

#microchallenge26: Cross a bridge

It could be a simple creek crossing, a leg-quivering three-wire bridge or one in your neighbourhood. Send us images of yourself getting to the other side. #microchallenge26

Partner prize: A $100 Further Faster shop voucher!

#microchallenge27: Tell us something new

Find a walk with interpretive panels and boards, take a pic, and share the most interesting fact you learned. #microchallenge27

Bridgedale Hike Midweight Performance Fit $57.99

Partner prize: A pair of Bridgedale Midweight Merino Performance Fit socks!

How to enter

You must be a registered Walk1200km participant to win. Take a photo of yourself completing the challenge (yes, people make a photo more interesting and winsome!) and share it on the Walk1200km Facebook group with a descriptive caption and using the relevant hashtag – e.g. #microchallenge25 – by November 17 (or email entries to walk1200km@lifestylepublishing.co.nz with the relevant hashtag in the subject line and the description in the email). Winners will be published in the January/February 2026 issue of Wilderness. Do you have an idea for a challenge? Email walk1200km@lifestylepublishing.co.nz
