It was a long hot slog up the Matakitaki River to Three Tarn Pass, but the wonderful display of flowering Aciphylla and Dolichoglottis plus the cooling effect of the many creek crossings meant the afternoon’s climb soon disappeared. On days like this, all the exertion is repaid in spades.

Taken on a Canon G9 at 36mm equivalent zoom, ISO 200, with the aperture at F8.0 and exposure of 1/1250 seconds.
