Will you join me and thousands of others in walking 1200km over 12 months?

Whether you’re a subscriber, and tramp every other weekend, or have bought Wilderness for the first time because you do the occasional bushwalk and want to expand your horizons, or hopefully you liked the look of our beautiful national park maps, you, and everyone in between, can benefit from participating in the Walk1200km challenge.

I know of at least one person doing the challenge in a wheelchair. Octogenarians have done it, new mums have joined and pushed their sleeping babies through hundreds of kilometres of walks.

If they can do it, or at least try, then so can you.

Don’t shy away because it’ll be one of the best things you ever do. The fitness and health benefits are too hard to ignore. The small investment – just 3.3km, or around 45 minutes, a day – can be done at any time and wherever you are – on the way to work, at work even, dropping the kids off at school, in the morning or in the evening. You can do it only on the weekends, or take those days off. There are no rules. Just walk, feel great, and achieve something remarkable – not just the distance, but vast improvements to your life.

And this year, as is befitting an event of Walk1200km’s stature, we have something special for participants: medals. They’re gorgeous, bamboo construction and the ideal acknowledgement of your accomplishment.

So, go on, make 2024 the year you walk 1200km.
