Each month we set three new #microchallenges to add interest and silliness to your kilometres.
These three fun #microchallenges will help you better appreciate your surroundings and have fun on your walks. Our favourite nine #microchallenge completers receive a Walk1200km badge. The best entry for each challenge receives a prize from our partners.
#microchallenge28: Be a lunchtime champ
Walk 6km in one hour, trying to get as close to spot-on as possible (i.e. 6km in 60 minutes would be perfect). You’ll need to get someone to take a photo of you showing your distance and time on your phone or tracking device to enter this one!
#microchallenge28 Partner prize: A $100 Back Country Cuisine voucher

#microchallenge29: Walk to a pier
Can you visit a wharf, pier or jetty on one of your walks? It could be lakeside, in a harbour or at the seashore. Take a photo of you on the wharf/jetty/pier and tell us about your walk (we don’t just want a photo of the wharf).
#microchallenge29 Partner prize: A pair of Bridgedale Midweight Merino Performance Fit socks.
#microchallenge30: It’s a sign

We’re looking for a photo of you with a sign, notice or billboard. It can be big, unusual, fun, surprising or even boring!
#microchallenge30 Partner prize: Rab Nexus Pull-on worth $139.95
How to enter
Take a photo of yourself (yes, people make the photo more interesting!) completing the challenge and share it on the Walk1200km Facebook group with a descriptive caption and using the relevant hashtag – e.g. #microchallenge29 – by July 20 (or email entries to walk1200km@lifestylepublishing.co.nz with the relevant hashtag in the subject line and a brief description in the email). Winners will be published in the September 2023 issue of Wilderness.
