Syme Hut Star trails Josef Sobek

Candlelit Syme Hut provided a welcome refuge on this clear, cold night. To capture the full moon glow over Taranaki, I left my camera outside, carefully wrapped in a beanie to protect it from freezing, and took 90 30-second exposures which I later processed using Startrails software. The moon was so bright that, several hours later, when we set off for the summit we didn’t need our headlamps.

Camera settings: Nikon D90, ISO 200, 90 images @ 30sec and f4.5
