It will soon cost more to stay at a DOC campsite as the department implements its latest pricing review.

From July 1, standard sites will cost $10/adult and $5/child for a night’s stay. DOC says the fees are increasing in line with inflation and council campsite charges.

Bookings for DOC accommodation for the year to June 30, 2023 open in April and May, with the department encouraging people to book early to secure popular dates.

Charges for Great Walk huts and campsites are unchanged in 2022/23, but differential pricing for international visitors remains.

“Differential pricing can help us manage visitor pressures and ensure New Zealanders can access popular facilities,” said Steve Taylor, DOC heritage and visitors director.

“We will revisit how best to extend DOC’s use of differential pricing once sufficient numbers of international visitors return,” he said.
