If you’re still sitting on the sidelines and unsure if you want to commit to the ultimate walking challenge – one that will transform your health, fitness and even happiness – then you may be in the minority.
A record number of people have signed up for the Walk1200km challenge in 2024.
And, some fascinating people getting are involved: some with brain injuries, one who broke her back, those wanting to lose weight. If regular walking can help them, imagine what it can do for you. For a start, it’ll make your tramping trips easier and much more enjoyable – I speak from experience.
I know I may sound like a broken record when it comes to the Walk1200km challenge, but if not now, when? When will you make your health and fitness a top priority?
Let me say, there is no time like the present: starting now will give you one calendar year to complete the challenge.
I know many trampers dismiss the challenge because they do plenty of walking anyway. I’ve heard the refrain often: ‘I probably do more than 1200km without trying’. Well, why don’t you try it and see exactly how far you do walk. The grand thing about the challenge is that it motivates you to do even more, and you may be surprised at the results.
As we see on p12, walk1200km is about walking everywhere, not just on a tramp. It’s about making walking – the oldest, most accessible and equitable form of exercise there is – a daily habit. You do it anywhere and everywhere – including your own neighbourhood.
So, it’s a new year – does that mean a new you, too?
All the best for 2024!
