The reserve is home to about 150 of the birds.

The track zigzags through pohutukawa forest and enters a North Island brown kiwi sanctuary.

The track crosses Burma Road and then a short boardwalked section crosses and comes out at White Horse Drive.

Walk through Whakatane to walk the coastal Kohi Point Reserve.

Distance: 10.9km

Grade: Easy

Area: Whakatane

Time: 3hr

Access: Car park at bottom of Gorge Rd in Whakatane, or carved gateway on Ohope Rd near the beach roundabout
