Our attempt to climb Mt Earnslaw in autumn turned out to be tougher than we expected.
After a cold and windy day’s tramp to Esquilant Bivvy Hut, we were greeted by 30cm of new snow on the northern slopes. As the sun began to shine and warm up the mountain, small avalanches were triggered on the upper slopes. Turning back was our only option.
