We asked five adventurers to share their ideal meal and the ideal location in which to enjoy it.

We all have a favourite dehy meal that we long for during a tough day on the trail. But that anticipation can be as much about the location in which we get to enjoy the food.

We asked Back Country Cuisine fans about their favourite meal and the places they love to enjoy it. Here are some of their answers.

Jade Middleditch

My perfect weekend involves overnight camping at Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park and hiking the Sealy Tarns Track, which offers panoramic views of the Southern Alps. One day I’ll continue on to Mueller Hut.

Tramping connects me with nature, and I love the experience of the present moment, the opportunities for personal growth and the appreciation of the journey.

My favourite meal is Roast Chicken. It’s filling, provides a homemade feel and gives me the energy I need.

Marcus Scott

My perfect weekend is a hike or adventure with my friends, exploring new places. I love the beauty of nature and the freedom of disconnecting from daily life.

Honey Soy Chicken is my favourite meal on these adventures. It has a perfect blend of savoury and sweet flavours. It’s satisfying and comforting after a long hike, and the easy-to-prepare packaging makes it an excellent choice for backcountry adventures.

Ivanna Brudnytska

The perfect trip involves my boyfriend and me pushing ourselves on a multi-day mission that is full of challenge. I get such a feeling of freedom on such trips: there’s no one around and I am surviving on what I’m carrying.

The Spaghetti Bolognaise is a favourite because it tastes exactly like a homemade meal!

Joel Tebbs

Being outside reconnects me with nature and helps me unwind from the stresses of day-to-day life. My perfect weekend could be in the mountains, by a beach, or in a forest. As long as my mates and I see a sunset, epic views, or spend  the night stargazing, I’ll love it.

A Back Country Cuisine Spaghetti Bolognaise finishes off a day in the wild. This meal is on my favourite list after I served it to my flatmates and they didn’t even notice it was freeze dried!

Our perfect trip is being outdoors, having adventures, creating memories and exploring new places.

We have many happy memories of finishing the day with the Apple Pie dessert. We love its sweetness, and crush and sprinkle the shortbread biscuits on top.
