A project, that has taken five years, has resulted in six new full-day tramps in north Canterbury’s Ghost Gully.

The area was originally surveyed in 2018 by members of the Mt Isobel Tramping Group who hoped to make this part of the Hanmer Range available to the public.

The area comprises parts of Hanmer Forest Park and Molesworth Recreation Reserve. 

The tracks can be accessed from either Jacks Pass on Clarence Valley Road or Tophouse Road, a kilometre before the Old St James Homestead. The options include two through tracks and a loop return track from each entrance. 

A shorter exploration of the area is possible from the Tophouse Road entrance by walking to Rocky Lookout, with views up the Clarence Valley (40 min), or walking further on to Kam Point, which provides 360-degree views of the entire area (75min).
