If you ask any tramper what their least used piece of gear is, chances are they will say it’s their personal locator beacon.

Carried on every trip, but seldom – if ever – used, a PLB is a superfluous weight in the pack, until the day it saves your life.

To celebrate Father’s Day, Wilderness has a KTI Safety Alert PLB worth $339 to give away to one lucky reader.

To enter the draw, email plb@lifestylepublishing.co.nz, and tell us about the day you wish you had a PLB with you on a tramp.

Whether you were lost in the Tararuas, caught out in a storm or nearly washed away in rainy Fiordland, we want to hear your story.

Send us your best yarn in 200 words or less by September 3. Winner will be contacted prior to Father’s Day.
