Each month we set three new #microchallenges to add interest and silliness to your kilometres.

These three #microchallenges will help you better appreciate your surroundings and have fun on your walks. Our favourite nine #microchallenge completers receive a Walk1200km badge. The best entry for each challenge receives a prize from our partners.

#microchallenge34: Jump over something

Can you leap over something – a gap between rocks, a puddle, a stream, a low wall or gate perhaps? We want to see this moment in time captured with a photograph of you in mid-air!

#microchallenge34 Partner prize: A pair of feet-warming Bridgedale Midweight Merino Performance Fit socks

#microchallenge35: Walk through a tunnel

Can you find a tunnel? It could be a natural tunnel – of trees, or a rock archway for instance – or one that is man-made. Your entry should tell us where the tunnel is and show you walking, or crawling, through it.

#microchallenge35 Partner prize: Rab Nexus Pull-on worth $140

#microchallenge36: Stand beneath a tall structure!

Can you find a tall structure on your next walk and stand beneath it? It could be a cell-phone tower, wind turbine, lighthouse, the Sky Tower, a hut chimney … the possibilities are endless. Thanks to participant Leah Wyatt for this idea!

#microchallenge36 Partner prize: A $100 voucher from Further Faster

How to enter

Take a photo of yourself (yes, people make a photo more interesting and winnable!) completing the challenge and share it on the Walk1200km Facebook group with a descriptive caption and using the relevant hashtag – e.g. #microchallenge35 – by September 24 (or email entries to walk1200km@lifestylepublishing.co.nz with the relevant hashtag in the subject line and a brief description in the email). Winners will be published in the November 2023 issue of Wilderness.
