Weight: 773g
Limit temperature: -8°C
Best for: Variable temperatures, tramping, travel and comfort
Overview
Blending performance with adaptability, this tapered rectangular bag can be fully unzipped and has high-end lightweight features such as hydrophobic 800–850 fill-power down and 10D Vapour Vent DWR-treated fabric. The footbox is sheathed in highly water-resistant and breathable Pertex Quantum Pro fabric. The bag is available in three sizes and three temperature ratings. We checked out the mid-range: -8/-2°C (limit/comfort).
Performance
The Sonder’s comfort-oriented cut is roomy in the hips and lower legs for plenty of wriggle room and side sleeping, and the footbox is narrowed and insulated for warmth. The hood has moderate 3D shaping but less head-enclosing depth than an alpine-oriented bag, and there is no neck baffle. During warmer nights I appreciated the ability to open this bag out flat or to zip open the foot for ventilation. The Storm Foot works well to prevent the end of the bag becoming soggy when brushing up against a tent wall or when bivvying, which helps sustain a dry, lofty bag over multiple days. Overall, this bag combines comfort, lightweight packability and all-season reliability with the benefit of damp resistance, but care should be taken with the light 10D fabric.
What we like
Relaxed fit, versatile full-length and foot zips, water-resistant footbox, high fill-power down.
Limitations
The lack of a neck baffle was noticeable when pushing the temperature limit.
Why buy the Sonder -8°C?
Adaptability for a range of temperatures, sleeping comfort and a water-resistant footbox position the lightweight and packable Sonder as an excellent all-round bag that’s ideal for multi-day trips.
