The Further Faster team can help kit you out for all your walking adventures, and they can suggest great places to go. Here are some of their favourite walks in Canterbury.
Featured: Mt Isobel
Mt Isobel (1324m) can be climbed via many routes. When you get to the top there are views over all of Hanmer one way and mountains the other – and you can soak in the hot pools after.

Scotts Track
All aspects of Scotts Track to Avalanche Peak are amazing. Elevation? Tick! Views? Tick! The track itself? TICK!

Camp Saddle Track
I love this one. It’s not far from Christchurch and in terms of bang for elevation buck it’s a winner. In an hour you’re at 1490m and the views over Canterbury are epic.
– Senka

Bealey Spur Track
This trip can be adapted to your energy levels as there are nice views of the Waimakariri Valley early on, or you can push on to the hut or the ridge.
– Morgane
Mt Grey Track
This trail is an important one in my family and we often walk it when we holiday together.
– Ant
Cannibal Gorge Hut
This is a great easy walk, but it’s capable of throwing four seasons in one day. Next time, I’m going to do the full five-day St James Walkway.
– Vanessa

Pinchgut Hut
I love this track as it follows the beautiful Okuku River through bush to the hut. You can do it as an out-and-back or, on a hot and dry day, wade and pack float down the river, which can be waist-deep in parts.

Mt Oxford
This peak, with its network of tracks, is where my trail running and tramping passion began. Climbing Mt Oxford (1363m) can be demanding. There are long stretches through beech forest, but the journey finishes with an extended time above the bushline and exceptional views of the Canterbury mountains and plains – a reward for all that hard work.
