#microchallenge22: Traverse a boardwalk

In each issue, three new #microchallenges are set to add interest and silliness to your kilometres.

These three fun #microchallenges will help you to appreciate your surroundings and have fun on your walks. Our favourite six #microchallenge completers receive a money-can’t-buy limited edition Walk1200km badge, and the best entry for each challenge receives a prize from our partners.

#microchallenge22: Traverse a boardwalk

Boardwalks can be found everywhere, and we want you to share your most scenic shot from one, whether on a local urban walk or a walk in the backcountry. #microchallenge22

Partner prize: A pair of Bridgedale Midweight Merino Performance Fit socks!

#microchallenge23: Ramble beside the river

New Zealand is rich in scenic riverside walking tracks that range from easy urban strolls to expansive multi-day adventures. Can you show us your favourite riverside trail?  #microchallenge23

Partner prize: A $100  Further Faster shop voucher!

#microchallenge24: Signs of spring

When on your walks, do you notice trees budding, flowers blooming, birds chirping? With spring on the way, we want to see your best ‘spring has sprung’ pics. #microchallenge24

Partner prize:A $100 Yum breakfast hamper!

How to enter

You must be a registered Walk1200km participant to win. Take a photo of yourself completing the challenge (yes, people make a photo more interesting and winsome!) and share it on the Walk1200km Facebook group with a descriptive caption and using the relevant hashtag – e.g. #microchallenge22 – by October 13 (or email entries to walk1200km@lifestylepublishing.co.nz with the relevant hashtag in the subject line and the description in the email). Winners will be published in the September 2025 issue of Wilderness.
