#micochallenge22 - draw a map of your regular, or favourite, walk.

Each month we set three new #microchallenges to add interest and silliness to your kilometres.

These three fun #microchallenges will help you better appreciate your surroundings and have fun on your walks. Our favourite nine #microchallenge completers receive a Walk1200km badge. The best entry of each challenge receives a prize from our partners.

#microchallenge22: Draw a map of your walk

Doodle a sketch of the route you walk most often. Label important (to you!) parts, be descriptive with the placenames and add colour. It should be something you could give to a child and tell them: ‘Follow this, I’ve hidden some sweets somewhere along the way.’

#microchallenge22 Partner prize: A $100 Back Country Cuisine voucher.

#microchallenge23: Show us a landmark from your walk

#microchallenge23: Show us a landmark from your walk

Show us a landmark from your town/suburb/village etc. Something that is important and that people from that place would instantly recognise. You must explain the landmark in your caption so others from outside your area learn about it.

#microchallenge23 Partner prize: A pair of Bridgedale Midweight Merino Performance Fit socks.

#microchallenge24: Photograph the sunrise

With the sun rising later and later each morning, now is the time to do a special morning mission and photograph the sunrise

#microchallenge24 Partner prize: A 1600-lumen Fenix HM70R rechargeable headlamp worth $170 from safety partner Plan my Walk.

How to enter

Take a photo of you (yes, people make the photo more interesting!) completing the challenge and share it on the Walk1200km Facebook group or on Instagram, with a descriptive caption and using the relevant hashtag – e.g #microchallenge22 – by May 19 (those without social media can email entries to walk1200km@lifestylepublishing.co.nz with the relevant hashtag in the subject line). Winners will be published in the July 2023 issue of Wilderness. Got an idea for a challenge? Email walk1200km@lifestylepublishing.co.nz.
